Lanice avery, phd

Lanice Avery is a former research lead with RRC. During her time with RRC, she consulted on all things research ethics and philosophy. Her work with RRC shaped our decolonizing approach to data and how we write our organizational assessments. Below is her bio from her time with RRC.

Assistant Professor of Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Virginia and Research Lead with Radicle Root Collective. She earned her doctorate in the joint program in Psychology and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan and her BA in Psychology and Africana Studies from San Francisco State University. Her research uses multiple methods to explore intersectional identity development and how the negotiation of dominant gender expectations and racial stereotypes are associated with adverse mental and physical health outcomes among Black women.
